Katherine Keeney

Katherine graduated from Harvard University in 1988, cum laude. In 2001 the Association of Fundraising Professionals California Capitol Chapter honored Katherine as Fundraiser of the Year.Katherine’s experience encompasses 27 years of senior leadership experience and fund development in nonprofit organizations. Her expertise includes: executive coaching, development audits, feasibility studies, major gifts, capital campaigns, retreat facilitation, and public speaking.

Katherine began her development career in 1985 as an independent capital campaign consultant. In 1990 she joined The Greenwood Company consulting to more than 20 nonprofit organizations. Katherine was Executive Director for Sutter Medical Center Foundation from 1996 to 2010. In 2011, she became a Philanthropy Coach guiding nonprofit organizations to meet their highest potential.

As the Executive Director of Sutter Medical Center Foundation for 14 years, Katherine was as an active member of the senior administrative team reporting directly to the Foundation Board of Directors and the Medical Center CEO. Under Katherine's leadership the foundation staff renewed its cultivation, stewardship and planned giving programs, as well as rebuilding its database, accounting and auditing functions. She led a $42 million capital campaign for a new Women’s and Children’s Center as well as raising more than $100 million to support the hospital.

Katherine’s leadership was instrumental in grant-making for programs and equipment that would not have been available without philanthropic support. These included support for high-tech medical equipment and for every service line at a tertiary care hospital. Prior to her philanthropic career Katherine worked in outside sales in the private sector. Since 1985 Katherine has combined her private sector experience with her commitment to serve her community.
